THAT'S CRAZY
THAT'S CRAZY
So, I'm sitting on the train heading into The City (Manhattan) and this guy gets on. Now, he seemed like any regular commuter getting through the day. But, there was something a little different. I kept staring until I figured it out. It was none other than the legendary b-boy breakdancer Richard Colon b.k.a "CRAZY LEGS".
This probably doesn't mean much to the average block-head, but to true Hip-Hop fans like me, this chance encounter was surreal. As President of the Rock Steady Crew, CRAZY LEGS, along with his compadres, helped mainstream America and the rest of the world recognize underground breakdancing from the streets of Harlem and The Bronx as a valuable urban art form. He has appeared in countless classic Hip-Hop documentaries like Wild Style, Style Wars, Flashdance, and Beat Street.
So when I finally got the nerve to introduce myself, I played it cool and said, "I know who you are." We both laughed. We spoke for a while. He said he still travels, performs, and teaches the art form around the world. I must say I'm very amazed, and he still strong as hell (LOL).
I gave him my card and even if he never calls, I'm just happy he took it. All those years hearing people talk about this dude like he was from outer-space and he was chilling with ME. Gotta love it.

FITS JUST RIGHT!!
FITS JUST RIGHT
LEVI'S Curve ID
WEAR WHAT FITS Event
Just got back from the LEVI'S sponsored WEAR WHAT FITS Event at Bryant Park, NYC. The turn out was amazing. The line got shut down with ladies (and a sprinkle of dudes) clamoring to get a complimentary pair of new LEVI'S Curve ID Jeans in exchange for a pair of their worn jeans. Proceeds went to Goodwill, which is a very good look I might add.
The day was perfect (sunny with a little breeze), for charity and fashion. The DJ kept the crowd fresh with classic tunes from Prince and Lisa Lisa. You know I was feeling right! and my girl Janelle Monae rocked out to cap it off.

Casey Benjamin
Either Got IT or U Don't !!!
Profile on Casey Benjamin
Very rarely am I so fascinated by someone's personal style. But, off the top, I knew that Mr. Casey Benjamin was a true original. The Queens based Renaissance Man and 1/2 of super group Heavy Music, elaborates on Style & Culture:
1. What is style to you?
...Swag, the way you carry yourself. Any one can wear a suit, but not everyone can WEAR a suit...dig?
2. Who/What inspires your fashion choices?
I've always been a fan of American Pop Culture...been checking out Sammy Davis Jr., James Dean, Herbie Hancock, and Morris Day.
3. Pick one word to describe your fashion sense. Why?
Passion. I wear what I love.
4. Whats the correlation between fashion and music?
Shapes and colors are the muse of most artists. Lines, curves, the richness of all shades...It's all expression, just different idioms. Think about it...when you listen to a song you like, don't you see a vision in your mind?
5. What was your greatest fashion splurge?
Greatest splurge was a trench coat I bought in Belgium while on tour with Q-Tip. I'm really big on how clothes fall on the body so to find something that fits perfectly, sometimes it's just worth it to spend the money.
6. What do you look forward to wearing this fall?
I'm looking forward to my trench coats and combat boots. I like to do simple ensembles, let my hair do the rest.

7. What's your favorite menswear accessory?
I love my SHOES and my SUSPENDERS. Suspenders are totally practical, classic, and you can wear them high or low which in my opinion solves the whole "pants hanging off the ass" dilemma. Shoes are great, I probably own just as much as or more than most women. Ha Ha!

8. Why are classic statement pieces so important?
Classic pieces...set the tone. No matter how flamboyant fashion trends may get, you will see from history at some point, it always goes back to the basics.

9. Whats the sexiest thing a woman could wear?
...a beautiful simple black evening gown and Christian Louboutin heels close the deal.
